The name “Egira” indicates a migration, the abandonment of Mecca by the prophet Muhammad and his transfer to Medina (Saudi Arabia) in the year 622 AD, a decisive event for the origins of Islam. The Egira project is built around the archetype of the door, a place of transit where you can welcome the mystery, open up to new visions, try to reveal an abyss. Following the dictates of Islamic architecture, the doors are the result of a precise and meticulous work that uses abstract geometric patterns and poor material such as paper to make spaces appear and disappear through the overlapping of different hand-carved sheets.
The need to represent doors arises from the need to welcome, to open up to different cultures in a dynamic reality for which movement is a necessity. They migrate in search of places where they can improve their condition, their life as in the case of so-called economic migrants; or to escape from a country at war, from political persecution, religious or violent situations.
